Have You Met…? Deanell Fraser

Deanell is a familiar face at the Front Desk. She has worked part-time at MPL since 2014 and we are happy to announce that she recently accepted a full-time position. You will see a lot more of her. Be sure to check out the book displays she puts together. Deanell is one of our most creative and artistic staff.

Why did you decide to work at the library?

I love books, I love people, and I love fun events – it was a perfect fit.

Briefly, describe your job history.

My first job was in a photo lab printing pictures and selling cameras. I then worked as a Paralegal in New Haven. Once I had my girls, I wanted to be closer to home and worked as a Special Ed Para at Hanover School.

What is your favorite part of your job at MPL?

Giving out new library cards and creating displays.

What is your favorite food?

Ice Cream

What is your favorite book?

I have too many to pick one but my most recent recommendations are “My Best Friend’s Exorcism” by Grady Hendrix and the children’s book “Flora and Ulysses” by Kate DiCamillo

Do you have a favorite quote?

“The work of today is the history of tomorrow and we are its makers.”

- Juliette Gordon Low

What do you like to do on your free time?

Read, walk on the trails in Meriden with my dog, and check out museums and parks with my girls.

What is one thing that might surprise people about you?

I was in a horror movie and two commercials when I was young.

What talent would you most like to have?

To fluently speak multiple languages. I only know a little Spanish and ASL.

Which super hero power would you want?

If I could use Telekinesis to instantly clean my house, I’d pick that. But it would also be cool to control the weather for guaranteed warm and sunny weekends.
