Charmaine Wilkerson’s first novel, Black Cake, is an intriguing journey with the Bennett Family. It begins on a Caribbean Island with stops in the United Kingdom, California, New York, and Italy. Along the way some secrets are revealed and when Eleanor Bennett dies, her children learn that their inheritance includes the Black Cake in her kitchen freezer. This is a complicated story of family and love, loyalty and legacy, lies and honesty. Most of all this novel focuses on the importance of communication and forgiveness.
