Program Description

Event Details

Presenters: Barbara & Jack Brooks, retired travelers

We’ll visit the newest national park (NP) - New River Gorge - and Mammoth Cave NP, and the history behind these two parks (including the story of the slave who was the founder of Mammoth NP). We will take you on a tour of an old coal mine (yes: the tune “16 Tons” is part of the story), how the miners worked the dangerous mines (did you know that rats were the miners’ canaries?), and their living arrangements under very sparse conditions.
