Well, the first character you meet is 22-year-old Violet, a prisoner in Maine. The next character is Frank, a retired mechanic, handyman and widower. The third main character is Harriet, a retired teacher and now a volunteer in charge of the book club at the prison.
Bringing these three together is the focus of the book and a chance to view the life of some female prisoners.
