Program Description

Event Details

The First Amendment was written because the new United States did not want to repeat the mistakes of the old Great Britain. Embedded in the clause was the notion that a ruling party would thrive only if its constituents were granted the right to freely criticize their leaders, and that the government --including the people therein-- would be held responsible, that no government leader was above the law. In this presentation, we will explore the birth of the First Amendment, and the implications of all that today.
